Methodist Churches save £57,000 thanks to Church Buying’s innovative scheme

The Methodist Energy Basket was created by 2buy2 (who provide the Church Buying service) with the intention of saving Methodist Churches money and time on their energy procurement, so they can reinvest their resources where it matters most. In 2016, the first energy basket joined the spend of 144 Methodist Churches. The result was a total saving of £57,000 per year for two years.
The basket enables its church members to access competitive prices which are not generally available to single buyers. Contracts then run at a fixed price for the agreed period, which is usually 2 years.
Other benefits of joining the basket are: 100% renewable energy, regularly monitored suppliers and a single point of contact , which drastically reduces the churches’ time spent on administrative tasks.

We started looking at other energy suppliers because we thought there must be a better offer out there somewhere! We hit an obstacle with price comparison sites because ‘church’ isn’t a category. Church Buying services are primarily for churches and they’re endorsed by the Methodist Church, so we went with them. It’s proved great – they’ve kept me up to date with the progress of switching by email and I’m really happy with the savings.

The quotes they offered couldn’t be matched by our current supplier and the savings have been significant. In fact, the savings have been essential to us as it’s helped us meet other outgoings, particularly as we are a small church with a falling income. I’d definitely recommend Church Buying to other churches – the process is quick and easy. And it saves money!
